Date: October 30, 2023 Title: Assistant Controller Description: Under the supervision of the AVP for Finance/Controller, the Assistant Controller is responsible for performing the accounting functions necessary to report on the financial position of the college to all interested stakeholders.
This includes recording transactions and reconciling accounts for GAAP based financial statements, compiling information for an annual IRS Form 990 tax return for exempt organizations and distributing monthly budget versus actual spending reports to departmental heads.
Responsibilities: Record general ledger accounting transactions and analyze and reconcile accounts Record investment transactions and reconcile permanently restricted asset accounts in the general ledger and endowment tracking software Maintenance of the individual endowment account balances utilizing the endowment tracking software Record pledges and pledge payments and reconcile contributions and pledges with Institutional Advancement records Maintenance of fixed and leased assets and associated depreciation/amortization records Compile and provide all information for the annual college income tax form 990 and 990-T Reconcile and record college credit card transactions Review the expenditure documentation prepared by the accounts payable specialist to ensure appropriateness and accuracy.
Physically print the checks and initiate the payment process with external vendor Assist with work paper preparation and information gathering for annual financial statement audit Work with Student Government Association (SGA) to monitor student organization expenditures Assists with budget templates and uploading to Colleague system Ability to create and maintain positive relationships with all internal and external constituents Complies with all applicable College, federal, state, local and associational laws, rules and regulations.
Participates in significant campus activities, such as but not limited to; Welcome Weekend, True Blue Weekend, and Commencement.
As a representative of the College, comports oneself in a professional manner at all times, both on and off campus.
Additional job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications: Minimum requirements for this position are a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with between 3 and 5 years of experience in a similar field or position.
CPA preferred.
Public accounting experience in a not-for-profit arena Excel and Access proficiency General ledger accounting software proficiency Auditing and income tax preparation skills As a representative of the College, the employee is expected to comport him/herself in a professional manner at all times, both on and off campus.
Specific physical demands required by this job include close vision, and ability to sit and enter data at a computer for extended periods of time.
